The Russian national hockey team defeated the Czech team 4:0 and has entered the semifinal for the hockey world championship. On Saturday, it will play victor in today's Finland-United States game. A year ago, the Russian team lost to the Czechs 3:4 in a match for third place at the Turin Olympics and the quarterfinal for the world championship in Latvia.
The Latvian team has ten members from across the ocean (compared to one, Alexander Ovechkin on the Russian team). The team's legionnaires 2.5 million this year, as compared to $15 million a year ago. Seven Russian team members from the NHL made $16.5 million last season.

Russian team head coach Vyacheslav Bykov summoned Sergey Brylin after his New Jersey Devils finished the season at the quarterfinal of the Stanley Cup against the Ottawa Senators 2:4 in favor of the Canadians. But Brylin arrived in Moscow only yesterday and was not ready to go on the ice so quickly.

Evgeny Malkin scored the final goal, and it was the best goal made in the championship so far. Alexander Eremenko, from Kazan, was named best player in the game. At the press conference, Bykov reported that Evgeny Nabokov was on his way to Russia, after the San Jose Sharks lost to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. Fedor Tyutin of the New York Rangers will not be coming, however, since he was injured in the last NHL playoff match.
