Parties Saving Money for December
The Central Elections Commission released the first-quarter financial accounts of the parties on Tuesday. The period proved to be one of economizing. No changes were seen in the financial status of the main parties. United Russia is still the richest and it receives mire and spends more than any other party.
Two parties received no money during the quarter. The Republican Party, headed by MP Vladimir Ryzhkov, was too busy in court to raise funds. The Supreme Court liquidated the party on March 23 in a suit filed by the Federal registration Service. An appeal of that decision will be heard on May 31. The zero income of the Party for the Rebirth of Russia, headed by former Duma speaker Gennady Seleznev was less expected. He had promised to change the name of the party to Patriotic Forces. For the Homeland and participate in the elections.
The Communists received more than 80 percent of its income for the federal government last quarter (collecting 7.3 million rubles on their own). The Agrarian Party received 89 percent from the government and the People's Party more than 90 percent. Parties that receive more than 3 percent of the votes for the Duma receive federal support once a year. The People's Will and Socialist United Party had no income except from the government all quarter.
United Russia has about 300 million rubles in its accounts right now. The LDPR is worth 64 million rubles, Communists 38 million rubles and Yabloko almost 23 million. The figures connected to new competitors Just Russia and Patriots of Russia are less clear. The require large expenditures to establish themselves, but much of that money may be on regional accounts.
