Motorola No Leader in Russia
First time in the past three years, Motorola is out of the leading trio in Russia, the local biggest cell phone retailer, Euroset, said in the Q1’2007 report. With the market share of just 15.3 percent, Motorola yielded the third score to SonyEricsson.
According to the Euroset report, 6.7 million cell phones ($1.41 billion in terms of money) were sold in Russia in the first quarter of this year. The number grew 12 percent on year, fueling sellers’ revenues by 3 percent.
The greatest news is the change in the leading trio. First time in the past three years, Motorola is out of it in number of sold phones. With the 2.7-percent loss of the market share (to 15.3 percent), the U.S. giant was pushed to the fourth place by Sweden-Japanese rival. Contrary to Motorola, SonyEricsson expanded to 16.9 percent on the market, having grown nearly 10 percent on year and 2 percent on quarter. As usual, the first and the second ratings were maintained by Nokia (25.7 percent) and Samsung (21.8 percent) respectively.
In Motorola, they weren’t in the commenting mood yesterday, SonyEricsson refused to comment either. But the conclusions of Euroset competitors and analysts coincide with the ones made by the company’s experts.
