Eurasian Youth Union Holds Easter Imperial March
About 700 members of the Eurasian Youth Union conducted the Imperial March at Triumfalnaya Square in Moscow yesterday. The march was an Orthodox Christian action in favor of empire and in opposition to the Other Russia coalition. Law enforcement got a practiced session before the March of Those Who Disagree next Saturday.
The Eurasian Youth Union wanted to march down Tverskoi Street, but they were only given a permit for a mass meeting. Twenty-seven truckloads of soldiers, a stepped-up police presence and even several busloads of special forces troops protected the demonstrators and make sure no march occurred spontaneously. Demonstrators braved the cold to appear and hold signs reading “Glory to the militia,” “Our boot is holy” and “Arise, dead.”
“When the USSR collapsed, I had the feeling that I was being cut up into pieces,” Eurasian Youth Union leader Pavel Zarifullin told those gathered. “But we will restore the empire. The process has already begun.” Alexander Dugin, spiritual leader of the movement, called opposition members who attend the March of Those Who Disagree “the forces of hell,” and stated that “America is the kingdom of the Antichrist in the far West. Those who urge friendship with it want to sell the country for Internet and free chewing gum.”
Well-known television host Mikhail Leontyev told the audience that “The Russian people is an imperial people, and that is the national idea. Russia should become a modern, civilized, democratic empire.”
