Market for Digital Content Reaches $480 Million
According to iKS Consulting, the volume of the Russian market for digital content was about $480 million. Of that amount, 85 percent came from providing services on mobile communications networks. That segment grew 25.5 percent last year to $408 million. Its prominent place is due to the large subscriber base of Russian cellular operators. In January 2007, there were 152 million SIM cards in use. Music accounted for the largest segment of mobile content (up to 28 percent), but games showed the greatest growth (50 percent - $45 million).
Entertainment services predominated on the digital content market. They included music, videos, pictures, games and media and brought in a total of $349 million. Internet and mobile communications dating services generated $84 million and information services $48 million.
