Russian Swimmers Take Silver Down Under
The Russian national team won one more medal at the World Aquatics Championship in Melbourne, Australia, yesterday. That was a silver medal for synchronized diving won by Gleb Galperin and Dmitry Dobroskok. The Chinese team have taken the largest number of honors, as expected. Chinese men diver s have won nine of the ten possible gold medals. Russian women synchronized swimmers took six out seven possible gold medals, however.
Galperin and Dobroskok were the only men swimmers that were able to show any real competition with the Chinese. There biggest battle was not with the Chinese, however, but with Americans David Boudia and Thomas Finchum, who shot past China's Lin Yue and Huo Liang and almost overtook them in the semifinals.

Yesterday was the second day of swimming competition at the event, and all attention was on rivals for the top prizes American Brendan Hansen and Japanese Kosuke Kitajima in the 100-meter breaststroke. The American came in first. Russian Dmitry Komornikov came in seventh.

The women's 100-meter butterfly was harder to call in advance. Strong swimmers Australians Libby Lenton and Jessica Schipper and American Natalie Coughlin came in in that order.
