Non-Resignation Relations
// Russian State Duma decided not to demand Mikhail Zurabov’s resignation no matter what
Russian Minister of Health and Social Development Mikhail Zurabov reported on the success of social reforms to the State Duma deputies during an extra ‘government hour’ on Friday. Most deputies asked the minister to resign. The United Russia faction said the minister’s work is unsatisfactory, but did not support the demand for resignation.
A number of State Duma deputies demanded to include the voting on the resignation of the Minister of Health and Social Development Mikhail Zurabov into the agenda of Duma session on Friday. Zurabov, however, was firm in disowning the blunders of his ministry.
Zurabov said the difficulties that arose with the Additional pharmacological support program are not his ministry’s fault. “When the program was launched, it was impossible to estimate objectively the need in medical products of those social groups who were to receive specific medical therapy,” the minister said.
Fair Russia, Rodina (‘Motherland’), and Communist factions, as well as some independent deputies, demanded Zurabov’s resignation. United Russia, that has the majority in the State Duma, found the minister’s work unsatisfactory, but did not support the calls for resignation. It suggested improving the situation with social reforms together. Duma committees are now to prepare a corresponding decision which will be regarded by the Duma on April 4.
