New Task For Serbia
// Voislav Kostunica refused to discuss Kosovo plan
UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari presented his plan for Kosovo to Belgrade and Pristina yesterday. Serbian government refuted the plan even before meeting the envoy. Such stand might lead to Serbia’s loosing everything in Kosovo.
Martti Ahtisaari yesterday presented his plan, according to which Kosovo will not automatically become independent, but will receive the right to make agreements with other states and to enter international organizations.

Serbian Prime Minister Voislav Kostunica refused to meet with the UN envoy. However, such stand did not affect Ahtisaari’s plans. He met with Serbian President Boris Tadic in Belgrade yesterday, and then went to Pristina to hold talks with leaders of Kosovo’s Albanians.

In the course of February, Belgrade and Pristina should prepare their comments and suggestions, which Ahtisaari will try to include into his plan. The next round of consultations is scheduled for February 13. In March, the plan will be directed to UN Security Council. The latter will determine Kosovo’s fate.

Serbia’s avoidance of discussing the plan might lead to Belgrade’s loosing everything in Kosovo, if Albanian suggestions only are accepted into the plan’s final version.
