Car Inspection Comes to Deputies
// Ban on flag state number plates came into force
Ban on using special car number plates with national flag on them comes into force in Russia today. It was President Putin who initiated the ban. Road inspection (GIBDD) organized car re-registration right near the State Duma yesterday. Duma deputies took off their number plates and lined up for new ones. Meanwhile, GIBDD head Viktor Kiryanov reported on other measures to reduce mortality on the roads, adopted on President Putin’s order.
GIBDD organized car re-registration for the State Duma yesterday. The deputies had to go through the entire procedure of car re-registration, just like common citizens.

While the Duma’s special numbers were being taken off, GIBDD head Viktor Kiryanov reported on other measures to reduce accidents on the roads in 2006. The official said that the most dangerous transport is the bus, and suggested installing devices similar to black boxes on buses.

Kiryanov also suggested to return the right to collect fines right on the road to road inspectors, claiming that only 30 percent of fined drivers go to bank to pay the fine.
