Mikhail Gutseriev Witnessed Tax Evasion
Investigation committee at Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs officially confirmed yesterday the information about searches in Russneft and questioning of its president Mikhail Gutseriev. The committee’s report says that investigatory activities were performed within the criminal case of tax evasion in especially large amounts. Russneft said that it is cooperating with the investigators.
Searches and questionings of Russneft CEOs were officially confirmed yesterday. The investigation committee (SK) said Russneft is charged with tax evasion in especially large amounts. The company was searched on January 23, 2007. Mikhail Gutseriev, along with other CEOs, was questioned as witness.

SK could not specify whether the tax evasion case is independent, or was initiated following the last year’s probe into the activities of Russneft’s subsidiaries. Prosecutors suspect the companies of excessive oil extraction which allegedly damaged nature and federal budget to 5 billion rubles.

Russneft said yesterday that SK indeed took some of the company’s documents necessary for the probe, and questioned a number of CEOs. The company declared it is sure that the investigators will carry out a detailed and objective probe of the situation around the company’s subsidiaries.
