Parties Stand in Line for Liquidation
Russia’s Federal Registration Service promulgated yesterday the list of five parties, in which respect the court had sustained liquidation claims. The first victims are Eurasian Union, People’s Republican Party, Nature and Society Party of Regions Development, Social Protection Party and Union of People for Education and Science. Seven more parties are standing in line for being wound up. The court procedures in respect of them have been shelved due to their possible participation in the March regional elections.
Overall, as many as 16 organizations are to be wound up on failure to meet requirements of the Political Parties Act in part of having at least 50,000 members and 45 regional branches, 500 people each.

Four of the candidates for liquidation preferred not to wait for the court awards and voluntary wind up. United Industrial Party, for instance, joined United Russia and applied for voluntary dissolution. Three more parties – Constitutional Democratic Party, Entrepreneurship Development and National Conservative Party - held congresses at the very end of the past year and resolved to reorganize into public associations.

The court proceedings have been just shelved for the remaining seven parties. They have branches in more than a half of Russia’s provinces, and therefore, are authorized to take part in the regional elections.
