MiG’s Case Passed for Further Probe
Moscow prosecutors dropped yesterday the fraud and forgery charges brought in against Sergey Tsivilev, 1st general director of Russia’s MiG Aircraft Corporation. But the criminal case against MiG official hasn’t been closed yet.
An investigator of Moscow Underground Prosecutors intended this week to present charges to Sergey Tsivilev, 1st general director of MiG Corp., and his alleged accomplice, Musail Ismailov, general director at Aviaremsnab, blaming on them the attempt to sell to Poland neon and counterfeit spares for MiG-29 jet fighters for a total worth of $637,000. Then, the investigator wanted to refer the matter to the court.

But the prosecutors of Moscow Underground are supervised by Moscow Prosecutor’s Office. The latter decided that the charges had been presented to Tsivilev and Ismailov prematurely. Nevertheless, it is not the question of closing the case, and the investigation will proceed, the prosecutors specified.

In MiG Corp., they attribute the criminal case brought in against Tsivilev to the effort to prevent him from becoming the general director. Tsivilev is promoted by Alexey Fedorov, president of United Aircraft Corp. and the recent chief of MiG, and some groups in the aircraft construction community of Russia could be attempting to stop the expansion of Federov’s team.
