Media Markt Loses Suppliers
Indesit, Acer and Eximer have terminated supplies to Media Markt chain in Russia for reasons of dumping. This move of the biggest suppliers roots in refusal of biggest electronic retailers to work with Panasonic. In Media Markt, the prices for Panasonic were 50 percent cheaper than at stores of those retailers.
In the wake of violation of minimal retail prices by Media Markt, our company has terminated product supplies to the chain till December 31, 2006, having broken up all orders for December, Russia’s office of Indesit said in the letter addressed to Eldorado, M.Video, Tekhnosila and Mir retailers.
Without agreeing with the vendor, Metro Markt set prices for all product line that are 10 percent below the recommended ones on average, said a representative of Indesit.
In addition to Indesit (which has about 30 percent on market of household devices worth $6.25 billion), the similar letters were received from Eximer and Acer, covering 5.5 percent of the personal computers market worth $7 billion.
Europe’s popular chain store of electronics, Media Markt and Saturn, launched two stores in Russia in late past week. After it, six biggest electronic retailers of the country – Eldorado, Euroset, M.Video, Svyaznoy and Mir – held a news conference to blame the dumping and illegal imports on Panasonic. The analysts attribute this attack of retailers to preferential terms given by Panasonic to Media Markt and call it a certain warning to other suppliers.
