Gaidar’s Illness Looked Like Caused by Poisoning, Doctors Say
Russia’s doctors proved unable to determine the exact cause of sudden decline in the health of Egor Gaidar, well-known reformist and head of Transition Economy Institute. So the medical conclusion spells out no poisoning for him.
Egor Gaidar was released from the hospital after the council of physicians that ended late Monday. At their professional get-together, the doctors acknowledged “effect of some toxic factor” but refrained from calling it poisoning. The reason of such undecided attitude of medical authority was failure to determine the nature of the substance.

Prime minister in time of Russia’s First President Boris Yeltsin and spearhead of the market reforms, Gaidar felt unwell when addressing a conference held at the National University of Ireland.

He was taken to intensive care department of James Connolly Memorial Hospital. The signs were the bleeding throat, vomiting and partial paralysis. Gaidar was transferred to a Moscow Hospital November 26.

It could have been poisoning, said the closest mates of Gaidar. while RAO UES chief Anatoly Chubais even tied the illness to murders of famous reporter Anna Politkovskaya and former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko.

Gaidar is being treated at home. He declines to shed light on the events to Russia’s media but will probably do it in an article for western newspapers.
