Forbes Russia Out with Baturina on the Cover
The December issue of Forbes Russia will be out with this original content, Axel Springer Russia reported Friday. The issue will feature an article about Inteko’s head Elena Baturina that the publishers earlier decided to take away in a dispute with Inteko. The decision to print the magazine with its original content was made under the influence of Forbes’ U.S. headquarters.
Forbes’s December issue will be on sale on Saturday with the article about Moscow Mayor’s wife Elena Baturina. A scandal erupted on Thursday when the Axel Springer Russia publishers announced withdrawing the issue. The publishers decided to take away an article about Elena Baturina, head of the Inteko company and Moscow Mayor’s wife, after Inteko had put pressure on the publishers.

Alex Springer’s briefer Edda Fels told Kommersant that initially the issues were not sent to sale because facts in the cover story had not been properly verified. The story was checked and the headline was amended. Earlier, Forbes Russia’s editor-in-chief Maxim Kashulinsky had offered his resignation to protest the issue’s withdrawal. Kashulinsky told Kommersant on Thursday the headline had been amended, and Inteko agreed to it.

Forbes’s U.S. headquarters rallied with Axel Springer in its intention to verify the cover story but made no further comment. Under the current agreement, Axel Spinger is responsible for the content of the magazine but Forbes U.S. can strip the German publisher of the license to print the magazine.

The resignation of Maxim Kashulinsky has not been accepted yet, and his future at Forbes is still in the air. Meanwhile, experts forecast a rise in Forbes’ sales after the withdrawal scandal.
