U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice does not plan to run for the U.S. presidency in 2008. She said in an interview with French television she feels pride for women politicians and Segolene Royal who has good chances to win the presidential election in France next April. Apparently, Condoleezza Rice has decided to clear the way for other Republicans – Senator John McCain and New York ex-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani after the Republicans’ failure at the Congress election.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice finished her seventh tour around the Middle East on Friday.

Speaking to French journalists from TF1 television Condoleezza Rice mentioned her plans for future. “I’m very glad that women are running, and women are winning in many places,” the U.S. Secretary of State told TF1 late Wednesday. “But I won’t be one of them.” Ms. Rice apparently meant the Socialist Segolene Royal who has emerged as a strong contender to become France’s first woman president, after her party overwhelmingly chose her as its candidate for next year’s election.

The U.S. Secretary of State said he would like to go on with her academic career after her office. “Hopefully I, as secretary of state, can still help the United States to achieve some very important milestones,” she said. “But when I’ve done that, I’ll go home to California and teach students about this experience.”

Apparently the Republicans will now choose male candidates such as Senator John McCain or New York’s former Mayor Rudolph Guiliani for the upcoming presidential race. The Democrats are expected to vote for Senator Hillary Clinton.
