Self-Destruction of Chemical Weapons
The cases of a few shells broke and their content leaked into the ground at Maradykovo facilities of chemical weapon destruction in the Kirov Region in early November. The accident happened during detoxification of air bombs. Even though the residents of Mirny-village that hosts the facilities heard the alarming signal, Emergency Ministry and local authorities still deny the accident.
It was Andrey Taranov, chairman of Chemical Safety Union, that told journalists yesterday about Maradykovo accident referring to employees of the chemical destruction facilities.

Cases of a few air bombs broke during detoxification and chemical agents leaked into the ground, Maradykovo employees said, emphasizing they learned about the accident by chance and that a special fact-finding mission led by Lt.-Gen. Valery Kapashin is working there now. Kapashin is the chief of Federal Department for Safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons.

In official Maradykovo, however, they deny all data about the accident, saying Kapashin’s visit was the scheduled one and that the general left for Moscow. “The general learnt about the so-called accident at facilities from Internet," said representatives of Maradykovo news service, adding Kapashin calmed down the governor already, having refuted the rumors.
