Gazprom Awaited in Leipzig
Acting on behalf of Gazprom, unidentified stock gamblers are buying the stocks of RWE AG, gas seller to end users in Eastern Germany, German Handelsblatt reported. Gazprom denies the data, but its export strategy provides for reaching end consumers of gas in Europe.
On behalf of Gazprom, some stock gamblers are buying out stocks of RWE AG targeted at building up 5-percent ownership in it, German Handelsblatt reported referring to unidentified sources.
RWE jumped 4.6 percent to ˆ77 a stock in early October. Yesterday, both RWE and Gazprom called Handelsblatt news mere rumors and declined to comment.
But all official response of Gazprom notwithstanding, its export strategy provides for reaching Europe's end users of gas. And it was hardly by chance that Gazprom’s subsidiary division in Germany was renamed to Gazprom Germany in October. The local media attributed the renaming to Gazprom’s effort to reconnoiter the ground for buying communal assets all over the country.
Moreover, exactly RWE sells gas to end users in Eastern Germany, including Leipzig, where Gazprom owns 5 percent in the gas network, Leipziger Verbundnetz Gas. Gazprom’s subsidiary, Efet, joined the German organization of energy and resource suppliers a few months ago.
