Campomos to Win Back Meat Share
Owner of Campomos Meat Processing Plant, Campofrio Alimentacion of Spain, set to optimizing its Russia’s business. Campofrio leaves only one production site in Moscow but intends to acquire a few enterprises in southern Russia, Urals and Siberia. The analysts say the company attempts to win back the standing lost by Campomos in the recent years; its sales continue to decline, and turnover is stagnant.
It was José Miguel Darrido, manager of international division at Campofrio and BOD chairman at Campomos that spoke about Campofrio’s intention to expand in Russia. Campofrio has two production sites in Moscow. But it has transferred nearly all production lines to the second site, which annual capacity has widened by 5,000 tons, while the destiny of the first one is yet unclear.
Campomos Meat Processing Plant (Moscow) was founded in 1990. In output, it is one of the biggest meat plants of the city, producing around 45,000 tons of sausage and meat products a year. The company covers 7 percent of the Moscow market in terms of money. 2004 turnover stood at $124.7 million; 2005 amount was $125 million.
In 2007, Campofrio intends to buy a few enterprises in various regions of Russia. Darrido said they are considering plants in southern Russia (Krasnodar, Volgograd, Rostov), in Urals (Ekaterinburg) and Siberia, but have held no specific talks yet.
The company eyes Omsk Bekon (currently owned by Prodo) and Ekaterinburg Meat Processing Plant, the market players specified. Both plants didn’t confirm negotiations with the Spanish company.
