Having finally recovered after the shoulder injury, the Russian made his NHL debut against New Jersey and justified all hopes of the fans.
The debut was successful indeed. Malkin scored his first NHL goal against New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur in the second period of the hockey action. Penguins’ Coach Michel Therrien added Malkin to a lineup that included Sidney Crosby and it was the beginning of their brilliant tandem.
Malkin did utmost to show a proper spirit. He displayed a strong shot, was an excellent passer and playmaker. Malkin and Crosby created numerous scoring chances but only the Russian managed to beat Brodeur, who joined the league of the goalies with at least 450 victories that day, setting the race to 500.
