Moscow Holds Infocom-2006
The government-supported Infocom-2006 opened in the Moscow Crocus Expo Exhibition Center yesterday, October 18, 2006. For the first time in history, this year’s Infocom is ahead of the prime competitor, Svyazexpocomm, in terms of the floor space. Besides, Infocom arrangers managed to lure some key participants of Expocomm – the firms of AFK Sistema, for instance.
This year’s Infocom has covered 30,000 sq meters, having broken all records in terms of the floor space. The arrangers view this achievement as a real breakthrough even though this figure is just the total of six exhibitions held in six different cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk and Krasnodar).

The prime competitor of Infocom, Svyazexpocomm that is annually held in May in Moscow Expocenter (Krasnaya Presnya) had to confine to 24,500 sq meters this year.

In addition to the floor space, Infocom leads in strength of participants. Formally, the number of Expocomm participants was bigger - 795 vs. 400 at Infocom. But according to market players, Expocomm lost 77 exhibitors, while Infocom lured 30 newcomers, which are real top names by the way.

Indeed, but for AFK Sistema, all big operators have been ignoring Expocomm in the past years. As to Infocom, the situation is much more promising there. First time in the last three years, today’s Infocom shows telecom divisions of AFK Sistema in addition to subsidiaries of Svyazinvest and MegaFon.

Moreover, even some manufacturers of telecom equipment could be spotted at today’s Infocom. One of them is Finland’s Nokia that refused to participate in Svyazexpocomm-2006.
