Senators Asked to Take Care of Migrants
Russian President Vladimir Putin met the Federation Council on Friday and asked its members to consider amendments toughening migration law. At the same time, the president warned against extreme actions in the ongoing Cold War with Georgia.
The Federation Council’s speaker Sergey Mironov and his four deputies went to the Kremlin on Friday to meet Vladimir Putin. The president and the Senators discussed the Federation Council’s plans and the program of the return of compatriots during the open part of the meeting.
Meanwhile, the close-door part of the meeting focused on Russian-Georgian relations, a source of Kommersant at the Russian president’s administration said. The Kremlin is set to take measures against “extreme actions” in the conflict with Georgia such as probes at Moscow schools. The Federation Council was asked to influence police in regions to make sure there are no extremes in local laws, the source of Kommersant said.
However, Vladimir Putin called on Senators to closely consider migration law. This fact apparently shows the Kremlin’s determination to continue with the conflict in the same vein. A few days ago, the president asked Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov to draft amendments to migration law that would virtually make it possible to punish migrants from the states that Russia is in conflict with.
