Sukhoi SuperJet100 Lacks Spare Parts
// US banned their supply
US Department of State refused to grant licenses for the supply of spare parts for Russian regional aircraft Sukhoi SuperJet100 to US-based companies Hamilton Sundstrand and В/Е Aerospace. This measure is the result of US sanctions against state company Sukhoi. Experts thinks that finding other suppliers might postpone the project for 1 year.
US-based companies Hamilton Sundstrand and В/Е Aerospace notified Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Airplanes (GSS) that US Department of State did not license them to supply spare parts for Sukhoi SuperJet100 (the new name of RRJ). These are 2 out of 9 American suppliers of spare parts for Sukhoi SuperJet100. Other companies have received the licenses. US Department of State explained the refusal by the sanctions imposed on Russian state companies Rosoboronexport and Sukhoi in early August.
GSS representatives insist that it is unlawful to extend sanctions against Sukhoi to GSS. Sukhoi is GSS’s majority shareholder, but not its only one. Italian company Finmeccanica SpA intends to purchase GSS’s controlling stock by the end of the year. Thus, its rights will be prejudiced.
GSS might try finding other suppliers. Maksim Pyadushkin, editor of core publication Russia/CIS Observer, said that “GSS never disclosed information on tenders for suppliers, and their participants. However, some time will be needed anyway to substitute the suppliers even for a little quantity of equipment, which can postpone the first flight of Sukhoi SuperJet100.
