Public Chamber Looking for Mutual Understanding with Authorities
// And the authorities ask the Chamber to soften its criticism
Russian Public Chamber (OP) held a round table headlined “Public Chamber’s work analysis and the strategy for its future work” yesterday. OP members acknowledged the organization achieved certain success, but said its main problem is the “shortage of understanding between OP and the government or the president”, and the fact that authorities do not want to listen to OP’s criticism.
OP members, scientists and representatives of public organizations, who took part in the round table, unanimously acknowledged that the organization achieved recognition among public organizations, that its members take part in various sessions of federal, regional, and municipal governing bodies, and expertise the draft bills adopted by Russian State Duma.
At the same time, OP’s amendments to many bills were not taken into account, such as OP’s report on the humiliation of conscripts by older soldiers in the army. OP tried to prevent the closing of the federal program to protect historic and culture monuments, but in vain. Thus, OP members spoke of the necessity to establish a direct cooperation with the president.
However, it turned out the authorities do not like to listen to the reproaches coming from the “third house”. Presidential administration expressed discontent towards OP’s reports on local self-governing reform and health care. Thus, the organization intends to obtain the recognition not only from the public, but also from the authorities.
