NRK Takes Over a Contract with Boeing from Aeroflot
U.S.-based Boeing and Russia’s National Reserve Corporation signed a preliminary agreement yesterday on the supply of 22 long-haul Boeing 787 jets. Thus, Aeroflot has transmitted rights on the jets to its major shareholder as Russian authorities have not approved of Aeroflot’s similar deal as yet. National Reserve Company will try to keep supply terms lucrative for the Russian airline, while Boeing will try to see through a deal with Aeroflot after 12 months of talks.
National Reserve Corporation (NRK) owned by Duma deputy Alexander Lebedev has found a way to keep advantageous terms of the supply of 22 long-haul Boeing 787 jets, a source close to NRK told Kommersant. Boeing and NVK’s overseas subsidiary signed a tentative agreement yesterday on general terms of the $2.5 billion supply. First jets are to be delivered in 2010 with a $10 million rebate for each plane, the source said.

The time of Boeing’s offer expired last Friday. Aeroflot’s board, however, took the issue off the agenda. The decision was put off as state officials who sit on the board had not received an instruction to vote so far. Sources say off the record that the Russian president’s administration does not favour the purchase of Boeing jets as Russian-U.S. relations are worsening.

National Reserve Corporation has assumed power and struck the deal to keep the auspicious terms and transmit the deal to Aeroflot in case state owners of the company endorse the deal. Boeing’s offer is reportedly valid till the end of the year. It is still unknown, however what sanctions National Reserve Corporation can undergo if Aeroflot’s management still do not receive an agreement of state officials.
