Russian President Meets Montenegro’s PM
Russian President Vladimir Putin met Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic in his Sochi residence of Bocharov Ruchey on Monday.
The Russian president thanked Montenegro’s prime minister, saying his “government do all their best to encourage Russian investments in Montenegro’s economy which are now estimated at two billion dollars.”

In his turn, Montenegro’s prime minister noted that “Russia was the first major state to recognize the independence of Montenegro and establish diplomatic relations with it.”

After the press left, Putin thanked Djukanovic again for the privileges Russian business get in Montenegro. For example, Oleg Deripaska’s RUSAL wins one tender after another in the country, such as a tender for an aluminum plant in Podgorica or a tender to develop a bauxite deposit in Niksic. This year, RUSAL was announced the winner in an auction for the coal open-pit mine and heat power plant in the town of Plevla.

On another note, Montenegro is extremely popular with Russian tourists as Russia’s middle class are buying out holiday home in this Balkan country, bringing investments as well.
