Liebherr to Build a Plant in Russia
Switzerland’s Liebherr Group has announced plans to build a plant in Russia to produce construction machinery and aviation equipment. The project is estimated at $250 million. Experts say Liebherr has chosen Nizhny Novgorod become of the local Hydromash company. The two partners at to bid to supply Airbus with components for its A350 XWB long-haul plane project.
Liebherr Group was founded in 1949. The company produces construction machinery and aviation equipment. Liebherr’s turnover reached ˆ5.3 billion.

Willi Liebherr, head of the company, visited Niznhy Novgorod yesterday, announcing plans to build a plant in the region. The production is to include the output of aviation and construction machinery components as well as the assemblage of construction machinery. The company declined to specify details of the project.

Experts say that Liebherr is willing to enter Russia’s growing marker of construction machinery. With a plant in the country, it will be easier for the Swiss to gain foothold here.

Liebherr has been in cooperation with Nizhny Novgorod-based Hydromash, Russia’s major aviation equipment producer, for a while. Hydromash and Liebherr Aerospace are to contend for the supply of components for Airbus’s new project – the long-haul A350 XWB jet.

The tender may be held next year, experts say.
