The Poultry Import
Russia consumes a bit more than 2 million tons of poultry a year. The import of this product is governed by the annual quota of 1.09 million tons.
For Russia, the key suppliers of poultry are the United States (74 percent of overall import) and the European Union (18 percent). Past year, the United States exported to Russia 784,700 tons of poultry valued at $667.2 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. On the same year, Russia and the United States entered into a bilateral agreement on the meat market that widened the quota on beef, pork and poultry to 1.252 million tons (vs. 742,000 tons in 2005) till 2009 and imposed the duty of 15 percent.
