Tursunov Didn’t Pass the Final
Dmitry Tursunov failed to win his first ATR title. The Russian yielded to Tommy Haas of Germany in the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles (6-4 5-7 3-6).
Unlike Tursunov, Haas was well-aware what playing in the final actually meant and proved much better in recovering from agitation. Haas had won nine ATR tournaments before this year’s Countrywide Classic.

Tursunov was very good at the beginning, always dominating and winning the first set 6-4. But the German was in no mood to yield. He got more accurate in the second set and won the break when leading 6-5. By contrast, Tursunov made a few rude errors in a row.

Haas was pressurizing in the decider. With 3-0 in his favor in the third set, he had only to hold the own serve, which he naturally did.

Anyway, it was the first ATR final for Tursunov. Even reaching it added him to the top 30 tennis players of the world, also first time in his career.
