Russia’s Jets Back to Farnborough
Farnborough International Airshow-2006 opened yesterday in Hampshire, southern England. First time after the six-year pause, Russia presents a real aircraft instead of the models. The officials no longer fear the claims of Swiss Noga, which attempted to seize the exhibits at the similar events.
“There is no fear that our machinery could be seized,” Rosoboronexport Deputy General Director Ivan Goncharenko said on the eve of the show. Rosoboronexport is the state armaments exporter in Russia.
In Farnborough, the highlight of Russia’s presentation will be MiG-29OVT jet fighter of MiG Corporation. The crowd will see this super-maneuverable plane not only on the ground but also performing in the air. Mig-29 will be the first jet of Russia to take off Farnborough from 2000. Initially, Russia planned to confine to a small Yak-130 of Irkut-make, but thought better in view of the recent developments.
Russia had been exhibiting the military and civil aircraft in Farnborough since 1988 but had to abandon this practice on fears that Swiss Noga would seize the planes. The clouds dispelled in early Match of this year, when the alliance of the U.S. businessman Alexander Kogan and Russia’s Finance Ministry bought out from Noga’s owner Nessim Gaon the debt of Russia for $70 million.
