Valuyev to Face Two Guns
Monte Barrett (Two Guns) of the United States said he sealed a contract to challenge WBA Heavyweight Champ Nikolay Valuyev. For Valuyev, Barrett is the contender of top priority, spokesmen of the Russian boxer confirmed.
Monte Barrett said yesterday he sealed a contract to fight Russia’s first world champ Nikolay Valuyev. Don King Productions will agree on the exact day and place of the match some time later. Valuyev also signed a similar contract, Barrett specified.
It is yet too early to think that the Russian boxer has entered into the contract, said Box Way chief Boris Dimitrov, who is the manager of the world heaviest heavyweight (Valuyev is 213cm tall and weighs 150kg). “Barrett is really the most real of several choices we have today. We wanted Nikolay’s next opponent to be a strong and authoritative boxer of the top ten in the rating, and Barrett [who is No. 8 in WBA] fully meets this criterion,” Dimitrov explained, adding the match could be held this October.
The contract for the fight hasn’t been made yet, said Chris Meyer, one of the chiefs of Sauerland Promotions that works with Valuyev. Barrett is the candidate of priority, Meyer confirmed. Most probably, the match will happen October 7, New York.
