Transaero Migrates to Heathrow
Russian Transaero and British Midland Airways (BMI) agreed a few days ago on the code-sharing flights at Moscow-London direction. For BMI, it was the mandatory condition for winning the sanction of Russia’s authorities for the market entry. Transaero got the chance to launch the second flight to London and move from Gatwick airport to the more popular Heathrow.
Transaero and BMI entered into a business partnership agreement, it was officially announced Tuesday. Among other things, the document implies making code-sharing flights at Moscow-London direction. Moreover, the airlines get the access to the reservations systems of each other and can substantially extend the number of routes offered to passengers. Transaero may offer routes from London to the United States and to Caribbean countries, while BMI will benefit from the CIS flights.

“Having signed the agreement, BMI received Russia’s destination in return, and we - the access to the sales net of the world Star Alliance [where BMI is a member]. No longer a junior partner in the direction, we are launching the second frequency in tandem with BMI, as we cannot independently open the second flight now. And at last, we are getting the access to Heathrow airport, which is more popular with passengers,” said Olga Pleshakova, general director at Transaero.

According to Infomost GD Boris Rybak, "the arrival of BMI and its partnership with Transaero will toughen the competition and force Aeroflot and BA to revise the tariff policy towards curbing the prices.”
