Passport Deprivation
// Robbers and policemen took away passports of ultra-left activists
A wave of arrests and robberies of radical youth movements’ members spread through various regions of Russia on Thursday and Friday. All of these young radicals were going to Moscow and St. Petersburg to take part in protest demonstrations timed for the G-8. Both policemen and robbers take away the passports and thus deprive young radicals of an opportunity to travel from city to city. Leaders of opposition parties believe this is a co-ordinated special operation. Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs says it received no orders to hinder young radicals.
Activists of National-Bolshevik party, Communist party, United Civil Front, Avant-garde of Red Youth, and Council of Communist party were arrested or attacked on Thursday and Friday. Their passports were taken away under different pretexts. This way, they cannot go to Moscow and St. Petersburg to attend rallies timed for the G-8.
Leaders of opposition movements firmly believe this is a mass operation of special services. Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said it received no orders to hinder the members of all these movements.
Leader of Left Front movement Ilya Ponomarev promised that his people will find ways to get to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and avoid being caught. St. Petersburg committee on mass events denied the information that they have allegedly banned any rallies.
