Valuyev’s Emotions Frighten People to Hospital
Nikolay Valuyev, WBA heavyweight champion, was interrogated yesterday in the Justice Court of Kalinsky District of St. Petersburg. The boxer is accused of beating a 62-year security guard Yury Sergeyev at Spartak sports facility in January. Valuyev claimed he didn’t attack the man but slightly put him aside. The guard slipped on the ice and fell down.
Yesterday, the Valuyevs showed up in the court in the whole strength. WBA heavyweight champ was accompanied by his wife Galina, three-year son Grigory and farther-in-law Boris Dimitrov.
Galina was apparently nervous when recalling that January 19, 2006, when she drove her son to Spartak and parked the car on the wrong spot. “He [Sergeyev] was shouting, didn’t let me utter a word. He explained who my parents and I were, and how much my driving license cost. I don’t want to repeat those accusations. Then, we went to the parking to move the car. I was crying and, perhaps, shouting at him as well,” Galina said. Her husband and her farther arrived in no time.
Valuyev and Dimitrov arrived in a white Volga when the brawl was still underway. “He [Valuyev] tried to move the guard away from me, but he fell to the side. It was slippery in the parking, everyone was falling there. Nikolay helped him get up and they headed to the sports complex. There, they went to the ventilation chamber, where Sergeyev hid between the pipes and was crying not to beat him and that [Valuyev was] killing him. No one was hitting him, the conflict was verbal. Nikolay just attempted to pull him out,” Galina said.
It is interesting that Galina had never mentioned the ventilation chamber in her previous statements.
According to Sergeyev, Valuyev forced him into the ventilation chamber and hit him at least 30 times there.
Valuyev gave testimony after the break in the trial. In the ventilation chamber, the champ said, the guard hid between the pipes begging not to kill him. “The conflict was verbal, I was only trying to reach him. But emotions apparently showed on my face and Mr. Sergeyev thought I would kill him. He could have knocked against the pipes when I was taking him out.”
