18th Moscow Film Festival
Film and concert hall Pushkinsky hosted the opening ceremony of Moscow International Film Festival. It is the only festival event which is still held in Pushkinsky. Others take place in Oktyabr cinema. Festival’s president Nikita Mikhalkov pointed out this fact several times.
Among the first guests to step on the blue stair carpet were Vladimir Naumov, Natalya Belokhvostikova, and glamorous Alika Smekhova. Nikita Mikhalkov greeted the guests on the porch. Festival president Mikhalkov urged everyone to come to Moscow and watch the films. “The most important thing is cinema. And we have it today,” said Mikhalkov.

The ceremony’s opening was accompanied by the sounds of Chinese lute, which was surely linked to the first showed film Oath by Chen Kaige. After this, members of the jury were introduced: French film critic Pierre Henri Delais, Canadian actor Remy Gerard, English actress Julie Christy, Russian film director Alexei Uchitel, and the jury chairman Polish film director Andjey Julavsky.

Chen Kaige was awarded for “Contribution to Cinema Art”, for which he thanked with authentic Chinese politeness. Moscow film festival remains one of the most significant cultural events of Russia, and shows films of high mastership.
