Vladimir Putin Rewards Patriarch
// Not all laureates of Russian State Award were announced
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree to give State award of Russia for outstanding achievements in literature, art, science and technology yesterday. The award will be given to creators of ballet “Legend of Yusuf”, actor Alexey Batalov, pianist Mikhail Pletnev, and three scientists—nuclear physicist Alexander Skrinsky, designer of ultra strong submarine hulls Igor Gorynin, and the third scientist is so hush-hushed that his name is not announced. Besides, one more extra award is given to Alexey Ridiger, more known as Russian Patriarch Alexiy II, for “outstanding achievements in humanitarian activities”.
Awarding procedure has changed this year. Putin issued a special decree to include Alexiy II into the list, asking the government to find extra 5 million rubles in the state budget.
Beside the Patriarch, three scientists were chosen eligible for the award. They are Alexander Skrinsky, director of the Institute for Nuclear Physics of Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Igor Gorynin, director general of Prometey research institute for construction materials, and a secret scientist with a secret invention.
Just like the Patriarch, scientists will receive 5 million rubles (some $190,000) each. Skrinsky will be rewarded “for outstanding achievements in the sphere of high-energy physics”. He invented a collider which is an accelerator in the form of a huge pipe, where electron beams collide and new particles appear.
Second scientist was traditionally honored “for contribution to military-industrial complex of Russia”, in particular for developing steel and alloys, resistant against extremely-low and -high temperatures and strong pressure. These metals are widely used in building of nuclear submarines and icebreakers.
The laureates will receive the award on National Day of Russia, June 12.
