Russian in Berlin Property Intact
The ILA 2006 air show closed yesterday. Russian exhibits at the fair were not seized, despite the sanction of the German court to recover $2.3 million to Franz Sedelmayer, a German businessman. Yet, there is no guarantee that other Russian property will not be seized at other fairs in Germany.
The ILA 2006 show was tainted by rumors of the possible seizure of Russian exhibits at the show following Franz Sedelmayer’s claim for $2.3 million of lost investments. The district court of Koenigswusterhausen sanctioned to seize state-owned exhibits of the Russian Space Agency, reportedly worth ˆ1 million. The court thus ordered to execute the verdict of the Stockholm Court of Commercial Arbitration that had been handed down back in 1998. It was up to plaintiffs to decide which exhibits to seize, Franz Sedelmayer told Kommersant.
The property was never seized, however. The plaintiffs decided to come to seize the property after the show was over and came Friday morning, Franz Sedelmayer said. However, securities did not let the plaintiffs in. Mr. Sedelmayer believes these actions were sanctioned by the Russian government.
The Russian embassy declined to comment the situation but said the exhibits were to be sent to Russia today. Yet, it does not mean that Russian property will not be seized at other fairs in the country. “I’m going to insist that plaintiffs do not wait till the end of a fair but seize the property as soon at it arrives in any German airport,” Franz Sedelmayer said.
