Ford Workers Prevented from Staging a Strike
At Ford Motor Co., Vsevolozhsk, the Leningrad Region, the start of indefinite strike was stalled for two weeks yesterday. The reason is the award of Leningrad District Court, which gives a fortnight to strikers to agree with top managers on the minimum scope of work during the action. Trade Union leaders of the enterprise said they are ready to proceed with the talks about the 30-percent increase in wages. Nevertheless, the final decision of management is as follows: the wages may go up from 14.25 percent to 17.5 percent depending on qualification of a definite worker.
Ford Motor workers were to go on indefinite strike Monday with the number of expected participants estimated at no less than 1,500, i.e. nearly two-third of Ford Motor strength. The managers were notified about the strike on March 31, said spokesmen of the company’s Trade Union. The notification was sealed by over a thousand employees.

“The strike was due to begin April 10. Late at night on April 7, however, the company’s management forwarded to us an award of the Leningrad District Court, ordering to 'suspend the strike, as the required minimum scope of work hasn’t been agreed.' Thus, we have postponed the action’s beginning for two weeks,” said Alexey Etmanov, who leads Trade Union at Ford Motor.

Ford Motor Co. is Russia’s subsidiary of Ford. The capacity of the enterprise went up to 60,000 cars starting from this year.
