Swedes Collect Intelligence Data against Russia’s Biologist
The District Court of Stockholm has extended for another fortnight the custody of Russia’s biologist Andrey Zamyatnin. Zamyatnin was detained Feb. 15 on charges of damage to total defense of Sweden.
The trial was closed and any and all data related to the accusations had the secrecy grading. After studying extra facts provided by prosecutors, the court ruled to prolong Zamyatnin’s detention for another two weeks.
Andrey Zamyatnin faced one more count yesterday. To add to the general spying, he was accused of cape-and-danger activities carried out from summer 2005. The accusation means Zamyatnin could be held accountable for collecting information about other persons and for transferring it to concerned party for criminal purposes, said Ulla Salomonson, who stands for Zamyatnin in court.
The prosecutor’s speech signals some actions of Zamyatnin could be regarded as military spying, Salomonson was apprehensive. Zamyatnin didn't acknowledge his guilt yesterday.
Russia’s biologist, Doctor of Science Andrey Zamyatnin had been invited to Sweden by the Uppsale University of Agriculture. Zamyatnin focused on the virus that hits cereal crops. The results of his research were rather successful and material profit was well expected.
