Moscow Wins Delay for Iran
In an effort to solve Tehran’s standoff, Russia, EU, the United States and China have finally agreed to forward the nuclear files of Iran to the UN Security Council, though Moscow and Beijing managed to win some delay. So far, the Security Council will be just informed about the nuclear program of Iran with no sanctions imposed at least till this March. Iran has neared the razor-edge, the observers warn.
Past Monday in London, Russia and China jointly opposed the intention of the West and the United States to immediately transfer the nuclear files of Iran to the UN Security Council. The key argument was the consent of Iran to enrich uranium in Russia. In detail, the issue will be canvassed in Moscow on February 16, and China stands ready to joint the project.
In the West, however, they were not born yesterday, especially when it comes to the rather mercantile interests of Moscow in Iran. Should the international sanctions be imposed against Teheran, Russia would lose roughly $1 billion because of the uncompleted construction of the nuclear plant in Bushehr and another $1 billion due to the failure to cooperate with Iran in the military and engineering field.
