Yesterday in National Hockey League deserved to be called the “Russian Day.” Several Russian players -- potential participants of Olympic Team Russia—showed excellent plays. The list of the hockey players who will go in Winter Olympics would be published tomorrow.
Alexei Kovalev had a knee surgery in November. Yesterday, he played first game after the rehabilitation. His team Montreal Canadiens was losing to the best team of championship Ottawa Senators 0:3. However, with help of Kovalev, Canadiens took the initiative, made the score even, and then won. Kovalev scored twice and had two assists.
This match was also special to Kovalev because he scored his 300th goal and received 700 points in his career.
Also, yesterday Center Forward of Detroit Red Wings Pavel Datsyuk led hi team to a victory over Columbus Blue Jackets. Another candidate for Russian Olympic team Nikolay Zherdev, who was playing for Columbus, also scored in this match.
The veteran of New Jersey Devils Alexander Mogilny, 36, scored decisive goal in the match with New York Rangers.
Goalkeeper of San Jose Sharks Evgeny Nabokov had shown a perfect play with Anaheim Mighty Ducks, where another Russian goalie Ilya Bryzgalov plays. Sharks won. However, Bryzgalov, who came out in third period, did not let San Jose players to score. Both Russian goalkeepers will play in Olympics.
