Compromising Materials for "Volga" Were Found in Garage
// Prosecution confiscates the plant’ s documents from the employee
Prosecution of Nizhniy Novgorod Region announced about confiscation of the documents from top-manager of “Volga” (Balakhninsky Cellulose-Paper Plant). These documents were proof of the plant’s tax evasion and were needed as evidence for the criminal case, which was open in March. Now investigation went into the final stage. In the same time, the plant representatives insist that the documents have nothing to do with criminal case about a tax evasion.
The Cellulose-Paper Plant (CPP)“Volga” is largest in Russia producer and exporter of the paper for printed media. “Ost West Group,” which belongs to Shalva Breus, is controlling 95 percent of CPP. The state has 0.24 percent of shares. According to Kommersant, last year the owner of Basic Element Oleg Deripaska tried to buy “Volga” from Breus. However, they could not get agree on the price. After that CPP started to become an object for many inspections and audits, which ended up as criminal case.

The case was open in March 10, 2005 because of the plant management put false information in tax statement for 2001-2003. The damage to the state was appraised at 253 million rubles.

The plant was searched six times, but only on December 16 the wanted paper trail was found in the garage of Nikolay Ermosh, Deputy Director of “Volga” Security Service. There were documents about financial activities which contained the proof of tax evasion.

According to the press secretary of Regional Prosecution Office Konstantin Moiseev, the confiscated documents are important for the investigation. “We were missing exactly these papers to prove foul play, “Moiseev said.

In the mean time, representatives of CPP insist that confiscated documents have nothing to do with the criminal case. “Constant searches were preventing normal work in the plant. That is why these documents were kept outside of “Volga” territory, “ the prepresentatives stated.
