Dynamo Brings in Suit Vs. Ovechkin, Washington Capitals
Dynamo Moscow Hockey Club has gone to the U.S. law with a suit against Alex Ovechkin and Washington Capitals, where he plays today. The official purpose is to force Ovechkin to play for Dynamo till his contract expires at the end of the season. The real target is to get compensation for the talented hockey player.
“We have really lodged a claim in the Washington Court, seeking to acknowledge the validity of our contract with Alexander Ovechkin,” Dynamo President Anatoly Kharchuk told Kommersant Monday. “We want the hockey player to meet his commitments set forth in it. That is play for Dynamo.”
The real purpose to attain is apparently a bit different. Dynamo will hardly force Ovechkin to immediately return to Russia. Once the club is upheld in the court, it may further negotiate with Washington Capitals about the future of the forward player, Kharchuk hinted. True, Kharchuk has never used the word “compensation,” which amount could be forecasted at around $800,000. The white-blues lost exactly that sum, when unlike other countries of Europe, Russia refused to seal the agreement between IIHF and NHL. The said document provides for some increase in compensation paid to the European clubs for hockey players leaving for the New World. In case of drafted number one Ovechkin, the amount is up to $1 million.
