Sibneft to Move to St. Pete
Alexey Miller, Gazprom CEO, met with the St. Petersburg governor yesterday and confirmed that Sibneft would be re-registered in the city and later renamed. A few subsidiaries of the gas monopolist, including SIBUR, may also move to Russia’s second-largest city. Tax receipts from Gazprom’s subsidiaries will help St. Petersburg to build a new stadium for the city’s favorite FC Zenit. Gazprom has also some more presents for the Russian Northern capital – Alexey Miller promised to give the city 50 New Year’s trees.
Alexey Miller presented yesterday construction projects for a new football stadium and Gazprom City office center in St. Petersburg. The chief executive said after the presentation that the gas company was set to transfer the headquarters of Sibneft, which Gazprom had recently bought, to St. Petersburg. Valentina Matvienko, the city’s governor, backed the decision and reminded the press that the second-largest city had not had such a large taxpayer so far.

Sources of Kommersant report that final terms on the registration of Sibneft in the city will be laid on December 15 when Miller will meet Matvienko to sign a comprehensive agreement on the cooperation between the state-controlled gas giant and the city administration. A participant in the talks says Gazprom is also considering the re-registration of its subsidiaries SOGAZ and Sibur. The city will spend the tax revenues on the new football stadium.

Yesterday, Alexey Miller’s company showered the home town of its top executive with gifts. Valentina Matvienko mentioned that Gazprom would give St. Petersburg 50 artificial fir-trees to decorate the city for the upcoming New Year.
