Police Interested in Stolen Incomes
The Prosecutor General’s Office ordered the Interior Ministry on Friday to look into the leakage of the confidential information about the incomes of Moscow and Moscow Region’s residents which appeared in a new pirate database. It is for the first time that prosecutors address the issue of the buoyant market of the sale of confidential information. The Federal Tax Service and the Pension Fund deny that the database has been stolen from them.
The Prosecutor General’s Office ordered the police to uncover the source of the leakage of the information on incomes, the prosecutors told the press on Friday. A database with the information on monthly incomes of 10 million residents of Moscow and its suburbs has recently appeared on the black market. Police and law enforcement agencies have largely overlook the sale of databases with confidential information until now. Sources at the Prosecutor General’s Office surmise that the interest arouse because the new Tax Inspection 2004 database contains the information on the incomes of high place officials, including the Russian president, ministers and Parliament deputies.
The Federal Tax Service and the Russian Pension Fund, which are currently holding the similar information, will soon be examined by the police searching for sources of the leakage. The two agencies deny their involvement in the incident.
