Vitaly Klichko Given a Sick-Leave
The World Boxing Council has passed an official decision on the heavyweight title showdown between Vitaly Klichko and Hasim Rahman which was put off because of the Ukrainian title-holder’s injury. Klichko has been given 90 days to recover. If he does not get better by this time, the title will be passed to Rahman without fight.
Jose Sulaiman, the WBC president, did not give in to the pressure of Rahman’s entourage that urged to penalize Klichko for ducking the fight and exaggerating the gravity of his injuries.

“We are convinced that a title which was won honestly must not be lost because of an injury,” Sulaiman said reading out the decision of the boxing organization. Vitaly Klichko was given 90 days to recuperate and determine a new date for the bout. If it is clear that Klichko, who will soon be operated on, won’t recover in three months, he will lose the title to Rahman.
