Duma Warns TV Broadcasters
Deputies of the Russian State Duma reminded the heads of federal TV channels once again that the broadcasting of scenes of violence and cruelty is inadmissible. This was the last warning, according to the legislature’s deputy chairman Lyubov Sliska who threatened imposing restrictions on TV channels in case “explicitly cynic and insulting information” appears on the screen one more time.
The appeal was made after NTV aired an item about cannibals last weekend. Deputies reminded the channel of the “Against Violence and Cruelty” charter of leading federal TV broadcasters that NTV also signed on to this June.

The Duma’s deputy chairman “deeply regrets that all efforts at compromising are now failing”. Lyubov Sliska says that the Duma now shows the “yellow card” to the signatories, and if the violations are not eliminated, legislative means of the restriction will be brought.

A large number of lawmakers now insist that certain sanctions be imposed on TV broadcasters Deputies accuse the channels of giving the priority to high TV ratings and revenues rather than the moral content of the programs.
