Boos to Take Over Kaliningrad Region
New governor of the Kaliningrad Region Georgy Boos told the State Duma September 20, 2005 the existing head of the region, Vladimir Egorov is ready to leave his office. So far, Egorov has claimed he won’t resign before November 19, 2005, when his authority expires. Today’s readiness of the governor to promptly resign signals he might have received a new office from Kremlin, the analysts say.
Russian President Vladimir Putin offered the candidacy of Georgy Boos to the Kaliningrad Region’s parliament on September 15, 2005. Though the deputies backed up Boos already September 16, 2005, the date of the office entering was unclear until yesterday. The difficulty was that the authority of existing governor Vladimir Egorov expires only November 19, 2005 and the governor was in no mood to resign before expiration.
The analysts attributed the above unwillingness of Egorov to the lack of proposals for the follow-up office that would satisfy the heart of the 66-year old governor. Presidential envoy to the North-West Federal District Ilya Klebanov specified not long ago Egorov had been offered employment but turned it down.
Georgy Boos announced yesterday he leaves for Kaliningrad Friday and may take over the region already next Wednesday. “We have a very constructive talk with Egorov and he himself offered me to enter the office under, so to say, accelerated procedures, as the winter is nearing – the time not so easy for the region. Besides, it is necessary to proceed with creation of free economic area.”
