Importers Offered to Become Non-Shady
New strategic details of FCS actions to tighten up control over the import of household devices were unveiled yesterday, September 15, 2005. Apart from official lists with wholesale prices, the customs officers need the lists of official importers to simplify customs clearance for them.
With the list of wholesale prices and the list of official importers available, the latter may count on the green corridor for customs clearance, said Alexander Kulak, deputy head of the main department for customs revenues at the Federal Customs Service (FCS). “The way to direct import and sale of product already in Russia effected by producers themselves is further improvement of the civilized market. We want to bring momentum by pushing the so-called one-day firms out of the market.”

In view of the above, the meaning of the FCS moves is more or less clear. So far, big producers have not opposed to shifting to direct import but never rushed to it, apprehensive that their product won’t be able to compete with illegal import. Once the producers are sure they won’t face shady importers, there will be nothing to stop them en route to direct import.
