LTU Former Manager Heads Russian Airline
Saad Kider, former top manager of German LTU, has taken over VIM-Avia charter airlines, having established a precedent in Russia when a foreign manager becomes the general director of an airline company. Kider was lured to VIM-Avia by Rashid Mursekaev, its principal owner.
VIM-Avia was created in 2002. According to unofficial data, Rashid Mursekaev owns 75 percent in the company. The fleet comprises 12 Boeing 757-200s that are mostly used to make charter flights abroad. Six-month traffic reached 686,600 passengers (Russia’s sixth in this indicator).
VIM-Avia went through the management upheaval late last week. Saad Kider took over the airline on September 8, 2005, VIM-Avia announced. Former general director, Roman Pakhomov became Kider’s first deputy for strategic development.
“The purpose of Saad Kider’s appointment is to enroot the western pattern of management in the company,” representatives of VIM-Avia specified.
This move of VIM-Avia has actually established a precedent in Russia, for it is the first time when a foreign resident takes the GD office at an airline. The analysts said attraction of a foreign manager will make it easier for VIM-Avia to interact with foreign counteragents in leasing aircraft or raising loans.
